Microneedling is an aesthetic treatment used to create tiny injuries in the skin to encourage our bodies to produce more collagen. This in turn heals, tightens, and tones our skin reducing fine lines & wrinkles and improving skin laxity!
PRP is used as a gliding agent that is injected into the skin with the microneedling device to aid in tightening of the skin and skin renewal. PRP is all natural as it is our own platelets that are returned to the skin to help the skin heal at a fast pace. The term “Vampire Facial” is somewhat misleading now days. This was an old technique that used whole blood that was injected with the microneedling device that left the patient a bloody mess. However, newer techniques have emerged and the blood specimen is now placed in a centrifuge that spins the specimen separating the platelets from the red blood cells. The platelets (a clear/yellow specimen) are then used as the gliding agent to be injected back into the skin with the tiny sterile needles of the microneedling device. In the end the skin is left shiny with minimal redness.
Microneedling with PRP is used to tighten the skin, improve scars, treat wrinkles, age spots, and hyperpigmentation, and diminish stretch marks on the body.
Microneedling PRP is good for all skin types. You may want to avoid this treatment if you use accutane, have an active skin infection in the desired treatment area, or have undergone recent skin radiation. You may want to discontinue any retinol products one week prior to treatment to decrease skin sensitivity.
